How to translate a phone call without installing an app

Three ways. Some phones translate calls in their own Phone app (Apple, Samsung, Pixel), so you install nothing; with Apple’s, Macworld reports the other person can use any phone. T-Mobile postpaid customers in the US can turn on network translation by dialing *87*. On any other phone, use a call translator that runs in the browser or over a hotline: with Owaa you open owaa.ai or dial +1 833 988 4455, and the person you call answers an ordinary call. As of October 2026.

Built into your phone

If your phone has it, you install nothing. What the other person needs, as each maker states it:

  • T-Mobile Live Translation: A T-Mobile line; beta registration. The other person: Any carrier or phone.
  • Apple Live Translation: An Apple Intelligence iPhone (iOS 26). The other person: Nothing (any device, per Macworld).
  • Samsung Live Translate: A supported Galaxy phone (One UI 6.1+). The other person: Not stated by Samsung.
  • Google Pixel Voice Translate: A Pixel 10 or later. The other person: Not stated by Google; one report says only the caller needs a Pixel.

From a browser, or from any phone through a hotline

  1. Open owaa.ai in any browser and sign in with a free Owaa account. Nothing to install.
  2. Pick your language and the other person’s, then enter the number.
  3. The other person answers a normal call, on a mobile or a landline, and hears you in their language.
  • No browser at hand? Dial +1 833 988 4455 from any phone and follow the prompts.
  • 98 languages; each of you keeps your own voice.
  • From $0.25 per minute by the country you call. New accounts can claim 10 free minutes once.

When a person is better than an app

  • Legal, medical or financial calls where every word matters: a professional interpreter is the safer choice.
  • Whatever you use, repeat key details such as times, amounts and addresses back to check them.

Questions

Does the other person need an app for a translated call?
Not with Owaa or T-Mobile’s network translation, and not with Apple Live Translation according to Macworld. They answer an ordinary phone call. Samsung and Google do not say.
Can I translate a call to a landline?
Yes. Owaa calls any number, landlines included, and the person who answers needs nothing.
Can I translate a call from a computer?
Yes. Open owaa.ai in a browser on your computer and call from there.
