Answers to the things people ask most. If something is still unclear, email us at [email protected].

Getting started

Owaa is real-time voice translation over the telephone network. Pick up your phone (or your browser) and speak your language — the other side hears your words in theirs.

What does Owaa actually do?

You place a call to someone in another country; Owaa bridges the two sides through a translation layer so each person speaks and hears their own language naturally.

Each speaker keeps their own voice — we do not impersonate you. Translations are generated in real time with a short delay for the first turn, then flow conversationally.

Do I need to download an app?

No. You can call our toll-free hotline from any phone, or use a web browser at owaa.ai/app — both connect to the same translated-call engine.

No mobile app is required today — the hotline works from any phone, and the web app runs in any modern browser. We may ship native iOS/Android apps later.

Which languages are supported?

Over 100 languages for call translation, including Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, and many regional languages.

If you speak a language that isn't in the picker, you can still try it — the model will auto-detect and match what you said.

How do I sign up?

Visit owaa.ai/app and click Login. Sign up with email + password, phone + SMS, Google, or Microsoft. All four methods create the same account type.

New accounts get a small free credit balance so you can try a short call before buying.

Placing a call

There are two ways to call: from any phone dialing our hotline, or from a web browser that uses your mic and speakers.

How does the hotline work?

Dial +1 833 988 4455 from your phone. Owaa answers, asks for the destination number, confirms it, then dials the other party and bridges the translated call.

You can dial the destination using the keypad (numbers plus a leading plus for international format) or by saying it.

How does the web call work?

Open owaa.ai/app, sign in, then open the dialer. Enter a phone number or pick a contact. We'll use your browser's mic and speakers — no phone charges on your side, just Owaa credits for the outbound leg.

The web call has the same translation quality as the hotline but with slightly lower latency because we skip the telephone carrier on your end.

What happens on the first few seconds?

The first translation typically lands 10–15 seconds after the callee picks up — we use that time to detect languages and spin up the translation model. Subsequent turns are fast (1-2 seconds).

Play a neutral opener (say your name, where you are) so the detector sees a full sentence rather than a short greeting.

Can I hear the other person in their original voice?

You hear the translation in your chosen language, not the original audio. Each leg gets translated audio delivered in a consistent voice. This avoids confusion from overlapping speech.

What numbers are blocked?

Recognized emergency numbers worldwide (911, 112, 999, 110, 119, and many others), premium-rate numbers, and short codes are blocked before dialing. Use your normal phone for emergencies — Owaa is not an E911 provider.

Translate Mode (on-device)

Translate Mode is a free device-local tool for situations where the other person is in the same room or listening to a broadcast — no phone call needed.

What's the difference between Listen and Talk?

Listen is one-way: speech in, translation out. Point your mic at a TV, a lecture, a podcast — Owaa transcribes and translates it live into your chosen language, with an optional voice read-out.

Talk is two-way: two people in the same room speaking different languages. Each speaker hears the other in their own language through the same device.

Does Translate Mode use my credits?

No. Translate Mode is free up to daily and per-session limits. The limits exist to prevent abuse; typical users never hit them.

Why does Translate Mode sometimes reconnect?

The underlying speech service caps a single continuous stream at about 5 minutes. We reconnect transparently; you may see a brief gap of a second or two and then the transcript continues.

Which languages does Translate Mode support?

Over 100 languages, including Mandarin (Simplified + Traditional), Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Turkish, Polish, Dutch, and many more. Pick your input and output languages from the selectors at the top of the Translate page.

Translation quality varies by language pair — major pairs (EN ↔ ZH, EN ↔ ES, EN ↔ JA, EN ↔ FR) are strongest. Rarer pairs still work but may sound more literal.

AI Phone Agent (outbound calls on your behalf)

The AI Phone Agent places outbound calls for you — confirming an appointment, asking about business hours, getting a price quote, leaving a message. You describe the task; the agent dials, talks to the business in their language, and reports back with a structured result.

How is the AI Phone Agent different from placing a call?

When you place a call (hotline or web call), you stay on the line and Owaa translates between you and the other party in real time. With the AI Phone Agent, you don't stay on the line — the agent handles the whole conversation itself and reports back with a result.

Use the AI Phone Agent for routine, delegatable tasks. Use a regular call when you need to be part of the conversation.

How do I create a task?

Open the AI Phone Agent page from the top nav, then tap New task. A 3-step wizard walks you through: (1) describe the task in your own words and enter the target phone number, (2) review the mission the agent will attempt and the fields it will collect, (3) see the price preview and submit.

The agent starts dialing within seconds. You can close the tab — the call runs in the background and the task page updates automatically when it finishes.

How does the agent know what to do and what to say about me?

From three sources: your free-text task description, the structured fields the wizard extracts from it (e.g. "check if available on Saturday at 3 pm"), and your profile in Settings → My Details (name, callback phone, email, address, notes).

If the business asks for one of those details (your name, a callback number, an email for the quote), the agent will provide it directly from your profile. It will never invent information that isn't there.

What happens if the business asks for something the agent doesn't know?

The agent says "I'll need to check with my user — can we call you back in a few minutes?" and ends the call with a "needs human" result. The task detail page shows exactly what the business asked for.

Add the missing info to your profile or the task description, then tap Add info & call back to retry. The next attempt starts from scratch with the extra context.

Can I listen to the call and read the transcript?

Yes. Every attempt saves a stereo MP3 recording (agent on one channel, business on the other) plus a full text transcript. Open the task detail page and use the Play button for audio, or expand the transcript panel for the text.

Both recording and transcript are private to your account — no one else can access them via the public URL.

Does it retry automatically?

Yes — up to 3 attempts within a 4-hour retry window if the line is busy, there's no answer, or the callee hangs up before the agent finishes. Retries space out so you're not spamming the business.

If all retries exhaust, the task lands as failed. You can still restart it manually from the detail page.

How much does an AI Phone Agent call cost?

The same per-destination rates as a hotline call — 5-minute minimum, then round-up per minute. Rates depend on the country you're calling; see the Pricing page for the lookup.

Step 3 of the wizard shows an estimated price before you submit. Charges deduct from your credit balance; top-up bundles are in Billing & credits.

What tasks work well with the AI Phone Agent?

Best fit: inquiries (business hours, prices, availability), confirmations (appointment, order status, reservation), and leaving short messages.

Avoid: anything that needs you to enter a credit card (hotel deposits, card-not-present purchases) — the agent can't read or type payment details. Avoid legal, medical, or emergency matters — always call those yourself. For complex multi-step negotiations, a regular web call where you stay on the line is usually the better tool.

Billing & credits

Owaa is pay-as-you-go. Credits never expire. You only spend credits on real phone calls, not Translate Mode.

How are calls priced?

Each destination country has its own per-minute rate, shown on the Pricing page before you dial. The rate includes the carrier cost plus Owaa translation.

Calls are billed in 30-second increments and rounded up to the next full minute at the end of the call.

Why do I need a 5-minute minimum to start a call?

We hold credits covering a 5-minute call at the destination rate so a long call never stops mid-conversation when your balance runs out. Unused hold is released back into your balance when the call ends.

How do I buy credits?

Go to Settings → Billing and pick a top-up bundle. Larger bundles include a bonus (Standard +12%, Pro +20%). Payment is by card via Stripe; we do not store your card details.

Do credits expire?

No. Credits do not expire and carry over indefinitely.

Can I get a refund?

You can request a refund from Settings → Billing. Unused credits are refundable within a reasonable window; used credits are non-refundable except where required by law. We review each request manually.

Will I get a bill for the number I called?

No, you pay Owaa per-minute; the callee is not charged anything. Your local phone carrier may still bill you for placing the hotline call to our US number, depending on your plan.

Talk with AI

Talk with AI is a multilingual conversation mode where you speak with Owaa’s AI directly — practice a language, brainstorm, ask anything you would ask a smart bilingual friend. Open it from the Talk tab in the app.

How is Talk with AI different from a phone call?

Talk with AI is just you and the AI. There is no second human and no carrier leg. Tap Begin and speak in any of 110+ languages; the AI replies in the same language.

Is Talk with AI free?

Each account gets a few free Talk minutes per week to try it. After that, Talk consumes credits at a discounted per-minute rate compared to a real phone call. Exact rates are shown on the Pricing page.

Can I see what we said afterwards?

Yes. Each Talk session is saved with a transcript pane in your language. Open it from the Talk history list in the app.

What can I use Talk with AI for?

Language practice, role-play, summarising a topic, drafting a quick email, getting a second opinion. Treat it like a hands-free chat with a smart, patient, multilingual friend.

Call history & transcripts

Where are my past calls?

Sign in, then visit the History page. You will see every call with its destination, duration, credit cost, and full bilingual transcript.

How long are transcripts kept?

Transcripts are retained for 30 days from the end of the call. You can delete individual calls from the History page at any time.

Are my calls recorded?

Short per-leg audio samples may be recorded for service quality analysis, encrypted at rest, and never shared externally. They are used to improve translation quality and are deleted on a rolling basis.

Contacts

How do I save a contact?

In Settings → Contacts, click + and enter a name plus an international phone number. You can also paste a block of text and Owaa will extract multiple contacts automatically.

Do contacts appear while dialing?

Yes — start typing a name or number in the dialer and your contacts autocomplete.

Account & login

Which sign-in methods are supported?

Email + password, phone + SMS code, Google, and Microsoft. You can link multiple methods to the same account from Settings → Profile.

How long does a login last?

A signed-in session lasts 7 days, then you will be asked to sign in again. You can sign out manually at any time.

Can I change my display name or avatar?

Yes. In Settings → Profile you can edit your display name and upload a profile picture (JPEG, PNG, or WebP, up to 2 MB). We resize it to a 256×256 square for the top-right avatar.

How do I change my email?

Settings → Profile → edit Email. We send a verification code to the new address; you enter the code to complete the change.

How do I close my account?

Settings → Profile → Danger Zone. Deleted accounts are soft-deleted and purged within 30 days. Unused credits become non-refundable on deletion.

Privacy & security

Is the call encrypted?

Yes. The connection between your browser or phone and Owaa is encrypted in transit, and your transcripts and account data are encrypted at rest.

Who sees my data?

Service providers we use receive only the data they need to deliver the call. Stripe (payments) is one of them — see the Privacy Policy for the full list. We never sell your data.

Does Owaa clone my voice?

No — Owaa plays translated audio in a consistent neutral voice. Voice cloning is not part of the product today; if it ever ships it will require explicit recorded consent.
