How to translate a phone call on Android

It depends on the phone. Supported Samsung Galaxy phones (One UI 6.1 or later) have Live Translate in the Samsung Phone app, with around 20 languages. Pixel 10 and later have Voice Translate, English with 10 other languages. On any other Android phone, a browser-based call translator such as Owaa works. As of October 2026.

Samsung Galaxy: Live Translate

Live Translate is a Galaxy AI feature of the Samsung Phone app. It shows the translation on screen and speaks it, and you can mute your own voice, the other person’s, or both.

  1. Make sure your phone is a supported Galaxy model on Android 14 / One UI 6.1 or later, signed in to a Samsung account.
  2. Download the language packs you need.
  3. Turn on Live Translate in the Samsung Phone app. Samsung’s support page shows the exact menu for your model.
  • Samsung’s support page lists around 20 languages (13 when the feature launched on the Galaxy S24). Availability varies by country and carrier.
  • Downloaded languages keep working with a poor or no internet connection, Samsung says.
  • Samsung describes basic Galaxy AI features as free; its support page names no separate price for Live Translate.

Google Pixel: Voice Translate

Voice Translate is part of Call Assist in the Pixel Phone app, on Pixel 10 and later (including the Fold).

  1. Open the Phone app and turn on Voice Translate under Call Assist. It is off by default.
  2. Make or answer the call. Both of you hear a short announcement in your own language first.
  • Languages for calls: English paired with French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish or Swedish. Some are not on the Pixel 10a.
  • Google says it runs on the phone, works without internet, mimics the speaker’s own voice and tone, and stores no audio or transcript.

Any other Android phone

  • If your phone has neither feature, or your language is not on its list, the call can still be translated by a service that does not depend on the phone.

Translate a call from any phone with Owaa

Owaa works in the browser on any phone, Android or iPhone, and calls any number. The other person needs no app. 98 languages, and each of you keeps your own voice.
