Face-to-Face

Two people, two languages, one phone.

Face-to-face, with the phone between you and the other person. You speak, Owaa translates, and the other person hears it in their language, then the other way round.

Start translating

Opens the Owaa app. Sign in with a free Owaa account to use it.

How it works

  1. 01

    Pick both languages

Choose the language you speak and the language they speak.

  2. 02

    Take turns

One person speaks at a time. Wait until the translation finishes playing before you speak, because anything said while it plays is not heard.

  3. 03

    Hear each other

Each of you hears the other in your own language through the same device.

Where it helps

  • At your door or counter

Talk with a visitor, customer or neighbour who speaks another language.

  • With family and friends

Have a real conversation when you do not share a language.

  • Out and about

Ask, order and sort things out while travelling.

Questions

Does it use my credits?
No. Translate Mode (Listen and Face-to-Face) is free for up to 30 minutes a day per account, in total. The limit exists to prevent abuse and resets at 00:00 UTC.
Which languages does it support?
110 languages. Major pairs such as English with Chinese, Spanish, Japanese or French are strongest; rarer pairs still work but may sound more literal.
Why does it sometimes reconnect?
The speech service caps one continuous stream at about 5 minutes. Owaa reconnects for you, so you may see a gap of a second or two before the transcript continues.
