Guide · as of October 2026

The best app to translate a phone call depends on your phone

If your phone has call translation built in, try it first: Apple Live Translation on Apple Intelligence iPhones, Live Translate on recent Samsung Galaxy phones, and Voice Translate on Pixel 10. Each covers its own list of languages. For any other phone, more languages, or a call to someone who installs nothing, use a call translation service such as Owaa or telelingo. Google Translate’s Conversation mode is made for two people sharing one device; we found no evidence that it translates a call between two phones. As of October 2026.

Pick in one minute

  1. Check whether your phone has call translation built in: a recent iPhone with Apple Intelligence, a Galaxy with Galaxy AI, or a Pixel 10.
  2. Check that both languages are on its list for calls. If they are, use it.
  3. On T-Mobile postpaid in the US, you can also try T-Mobile’s network translation, which needs no app.
  4. Otherwise, or to call from a computer, a landline or a business, use a call translation service such as Owaa.

T-Mobile Live Translation

T-Mobile Live Translation is built into the T-Mobile network: on a normal call you dial *87* and the other person is translated, with no app to install. T-Mobile describes it as a beta for postpaid customers. Owaa is a separate service that places a translated call to any number from a browser or the hotline, whichever carrier you use. As of October 2026.

  • What you need: A T-Mobile line; beta registration.
  • What the other person needs: Any carrier or phone.
  • Languages on calls: 80+ (T-Mobile’s count at the May 2026 beta launch).
  • Price: Free during beta; later price not disclosed.
  • Where it is better: No app and no per-minute charge during the beta, for T-Mobile customers.

Apple Live Translation

Apple Live Translation is part of iOS 26: it translates one-on-one Phone and FaceTime calls on a compatible iPhone, iPad or Mac with Apple Intelligence, and Apple says it is free. Owaa is a pay-as-you-go service that works from any browser or phone, to any number. As of October 2026.

  • What you need: An Apple Intelligence iPhone (iOS 26).
  • What the other person needs: Nothing (any device, per Macworld).
  • Languages on calls: 5 at launch; more announced.
  • Price: Free with iOS 26 (data charges may apply).
  • Where it is better: Free, built in, processed on the device.

Samsung Live Translate

Samsung Live Translate is a Galaxy AI feature of the Samsung Phone app: two-way call translation with on-screen text and a spoken translation, on supported Galaxy phones. Owaa is a separate, pay-as-you-go service that works from any browser or phone. As of October 2026.

  • What you need: A supported Galaxy phone (One UI 6.1+).
  • What the other person needs: Not stated by Samsung.
  • Languages on calls: Around 20 on Samsung’s list.
  • Price: Samsung says basic Galaxy AI is free; no separate price stated.
  • Where it is better: Built into the Phone app; downloaded languages work with poor or no signal.

Google Pixel Voice Translate

Pixel Voice Translate, in the Pixel 10 Phone app’s Call Assist, translates a call on the phone itself and, per Google, mimics your own voice and tone. Owaa translates a call to any number from a browser or the hotline and does not depend on the phone you own. As of October 2026.

  • What you need: A Pixel 10 or later.
  • What the other person needs: Not stated by Google; one report says only the caller needs a Pixel.
  • Languages on calls: English plus 10 others.
  • Price: No separate charge found.
  • Where it is better: Runs on the device, works without internet, mimics your voice.

Google Translate

Google Translate’s Conversation mode is made for two people sharing one device, and its newer Live translate translates what you hear through headphones. We found no evidence that the app translates a phone call between two separate handsets. Owaa is built for exactly that call. As of October 2026.

  • What you need: The Google Translate app.
  • What the other person needs: Not a call product.
  • Languages on calls: 70+ for headphone Live translate.
  • Price: No per-minute price (it does not place calls).
  • Where it is better: For face-to-face talk or listening through headphones.

telelingo

telelingo is a phone-call translator app for iOS and Android that translates your voice in real time during calls and bills by the minute. Owaa does the same job from a browser or a hotline, with per-country pricing shown on the site. Both are pay-as-you-go; telelingo’s starting price is lower. As of October 2026.

  • What you need: The telelingo app (iOS or Android).
  • What the other person needs: Not stated on telelingo’s site.
  • Languages on calls: 80+ (claimed by telelingo).
  • Price: From $0.21 per minute; partial minutes round up.
  • Where it is better: Lower starting price; a dedicated mobile app.

Owaa

Owaa places a translated call to any phone number from a web browser, or when you dial +1 833 988 4455. The other person answers an ordinary call. 98 languages, and each of you keeps your own voice.

  • What you need: any device with a browser, or any phone for the hotline, and a free Owaa account.
  • What the other person needs: nothing. No app, no account.
  • Languages on calls: 98.
  • Price: from $0.25 per minute by the country you call, no subscription; new accounts can claim 10 free minutes once.
  • Where it is better: any phone and carrier, many languages, calls to landlines and businesses.
