Owaa Meeting Voice — Privacy Policy
What the extension does
Owaa Meeting Voice works with Google Meet, Zoom (the web client — “Join from your browser”) and Microsoft Teams on the web. It translates what you say and plays the translation into the meeting as a synthetic AI voice — not your own voice.
What the extension sends
Only while translation is on: audio from your own microphone is streamed over an encrypted connection to Owaa’s translation service at owaa.ai, together with your meeting language and the language to speak in. Sound from people near your microphone is included. The translated speech comes back and is played into the meeting in place of your microphone.
Nothing is sent before you agree on the consent screen, while translation is off, while your microphone is muted in the meeting, or after you withdraw consent. On Zoom and Teams the extension reads the meeting’s own microphone button to know whether you are muted; if it cannot see that button (for example on the pre-join screen), it treats you as muted and sends nothing.
What it does not send
The extension never sends what the other participants say — it does not touch the audio you receive from the meeting. It does not read or send the meeting chat, the participant list, the page contents or your browsing history, and it never clicks or types into the meeting. The only thing it reads on the meeting page is whether the meeting’s microphone button shows you as muted, and that stays on your device. It runs only on meet.google.com, Zoom’s web client (*.zoom.us/wc/) and the Teams web app (teams.microsoft.com, teams.live.com, teams.cloud.microsoft).
Your Owaa account
You sign in with your Owaa account on owaa.ai. The extension keeps a sign-in token in your browser so it can request translations for you; it never sees your password. Translation minutes are charged to your Owaa credit balance.
What Owaa stores
Your audio, transcripts and translations are processed as they stream and are not stored by Owaa. The captions in the side panel live only in the extension’s memory and are cleared when you stop. Owaa records usage — the product, the session, the minutes used, the languages and the time — against your account for billing. Ordinary server logs (time, IP address, request size) are kept for security and abuse prevention for a limited period.
Owaa does not use your audio or text to train models and does not create or keep voiceprints or voice clones.
Sharing
Speech recognition, translation and speech synthesis run on Google Cloud (Speech-to-Text, Translation and Gemini models on Vertex AI) in Owaa’s own Google Cloud project, under Google Cloud’s terms, which do not allow Google to use this data to train its models. Nothing is sold or used for advertising.
Telling the other participants
You are responsible for telling the other participants that you are using AI voice translation and for following the laws where you and they are on recording and AI-generated voices. By default the extension plays a short spoken notice before your first translated sentence, and offers a sentence you can copy into the meeting chat.
Your controls
Stop translation at any time from the side panel; your microphone then goes back to the meeting unchanged. Withdrawing consent in the side panel stops capture and transmission immediately. Signing out or removing the extension deletes the sign-in token and your settings. To ask for access to or deletion of your account data and billing records, write to us.
